A simple act of love
The expectation
The day I entered the Haitian nation I felt something very special from God. A promise from Him was being fulfilled in my life. It was a long and tiring trip, but during the course of the trip, my heart was filled with anticipation. I thought about what it would be like to meet the children I had seen four years ago from the pictures. Would I recognize them? How would they be? I and the staff arrived in the evening at the New Life 4 Kids orphanage and we would only see the kids the other day. In the morning I woke up early, had coffee, and could not wait any longer. As I walked toward the children’s area, something was changing inside me.
A simple act and a deep experience
I saw a child sitting on one of the colored benches, and I recognized him. It was a boy named Sergo, who can not walk without help. He looked at me, gave me a beautiful smile and I went to him. When I held his hands, there was such a strange feeling inside of me that I could not understand. That should be a moment of joy, but something was happening within me. I walked for a long time with Sergo. He jumped for joy, did not speak, but expressed with a smile the satisfaction that someone was helping him walk. I left that place very thoughtfully because I thought I would do so many things. God ministered about orphanhood in my heart. God showed me how much I needed Him!
The commandment
On the second day, I came back to visit the orphanage, and who was there? Sergo, waiting for me to walk with him. I will never forget his look of gratitude, of joy! At that moment I saw how much God uses us in simple things. I tried not to cry near him, for God ministered in my heart how important it was for him to have someone around. Through such a simple act that marked my life, for a moment, this child felt special, and I thought: God, how can these things happen here? And God told me that He counts on me and on everyone who is willing to give the love that He has given us and to teach others to love.
